| space | Clicker Training is not new...it's been around for awhile, being used to train thousands of species. Correcting or punishing is not necessary for teaching behaviors. Fish are taught tricks, using no punishment. 'Shadow' the grizzly bear (shown here) was trained by simply clicking the clicker, and immediately giving her something she wanted. Grapes were something she especially liked. Many zoos are now using this training to make handling and caring for their animals safer, and less stressful for all. |

| space | A number of years ago, some dog trainers decided that if all these other species could be trained, without corrections, why not dogs? And, they were right! Clicker training is now being used by many dog trainers (including police dog trainers) as a way to communicate with their partners. 'Regular dogs' and their owners are moving away from punishment, or corrections, and teaching some amazing things, with clicker training. |
